Does Anyone Know What This Is?

i have no idea,

Glass tops had steel bars going across (couldn't open it unless they were removed), with a fairly heavy shoplight on it. My tank is full of "jumping" and "escaping" fish so i thought i was good, but i underestimated the jumping power of a 15" arowana.

The funny thing was there was no evidence of a breakout, everything was still inplace

Hows your RTG doing?

From the looks of it its showing nice 4th level shine and quite the spoon head.

There may be an asian aro group buy soon in my area, i'm tempted to get a panda wild blue... but i'd be out $1500.
I can't throw that kind of cash around on fish, but i'm definitely getting it in the future!

yer my aro's doing great, got a bit battered recently as the oscar chased him, although he's moved out now.

A 10ft tank is in the plans for me so I'll be looking at getting a group of asians to fill the top a bit, ideally I would like a couple of super reds and couple x-backs, as you said this type don't come cheap, i'ved had a quote at £4k for these fish.

Aww thats such ashame. Where abouts do they put the chip ?

I'd suggest putting some weight on your tank dude, avoid the avoidable.
Asian aro comm, now thats going to be costly lol.
But i'll suggest the panda wild blue. It looks gorgeous

The chip was cloe to the anal fins on the bottom of the fish, between the muscle and internal organs

I recomend using sheets of clear plastic/acrylic for arowana tank covers, i use a product called TEG which is a high impact resistant plastic but is easy to cut to profile around any wires and pipework very closely so there are no gaps. Its not cheap (a sheet large enough to cover my 66x30x24" cost around £60) but it has received several really hard hits from my 20" arowana which would probably have shattered glass but remained in place and intact.

You can keep your fancy asians, my next arowana is going to be a group of black arowanas :p

Absolutely, we move into our new house sometime in the next month or so (just waiting on a moving date) and as soon as i have the fish house ready (the building is already there it just needs a new roof and insulating) i will be putting in a 10x8x3' pond for some more rays and a group of black arowanas and several more large tanks for other species.
