Hello,

I am seeking some help. My firends have enherited a tank. There are two small fishes which we have been trying to find out the name of but in all the books, I and my firends have, they are not there. I believe they are fairly common. Would anyone help me with finding their name? I have attached the pictures.

Thank you,
Thomas

Hi there, welcome to the forum :)

Your friend's fish are cherry barbs, Puntius titteya. The very red ones are males; if you have any that are more orange and brown, those are females :)

Ha! Thank you for the greetigs and the answer! I have just had a look at the females - they are absoultely beautiful! My friends have two cherry barbs in the tank and yesterday when I approached the side of it to take the photo, they approached the camera too! That was funny. I guess they must have been ready to attachck of indeed they were curious. :)

I don't they'll have been attacking :)

Most fish learn very quickly, in a tank (and in the wild, come to that if they're fed), that humans = food, so they are pretty interested in people! A lot of us have fish that will; follow us along the tank, all swim to the corner where they are fed when they see the food pot, beg for food by swimming up down and wriggling their fins, stuff like that.

I have an oscar (a big South American cichlid) who will jump up and bang the lid of his tank when he wants feeding!

I have "trained" my fish. I try to mix up where the food comes in. They have to find it, I also put it in the hole where the filter goes so they dot learn that an open lid means food. I always tap the glass 3 times before I feed them. I can tap the glass and they swim strait to the surface and look for things to eat.
