Kinda getting off topic, but my favourite explanation for fear was survival instinct. Long ago we needed to rely on natural instinct more than knowledge to survive.

Over the years we've evolved and lost the fear.

This brings up two interesting points

1) Women are better survivors than men

Or my favourite

2) Women are less evolved than men
