Well I would post it int he buy sell and swap but i dont think everyone here would read it.

Does anyone have rare livebearer fry they can ship to me in the US? Ill pay shipping and anything else just reply. thanks!

Posting baby livebearers isn't a great idea, What you need to do is get in touch with one of the local livebearer clubs, such as the American Livebearer Association or British Livebearer Association. They regularly hold fairs and auctions at which people buy and sell rare livebearers. You will staggered at how many more species of livebearer there are beyond the four sold commercially!

One thing though. In another post, you and I discussed a molly that had died, and you described your aquaria as being limited to two very small aquaria (one 20 gallons, the other 5) and that you weren't prepared to add salt to your aquaria. Do you have another tank now?

Rare livebearers are great fun, but they do need to be kept carefully. Some are big (like Anableps, at ~30 cm), others delicate (like halfbeaks) while others are predatory (like pike livebearers). Some will hybridise with common livebearers, and others are too aggressive or too shy to mix with community fish. Most need hard, alkaline water, and some need brackish. In short, you will need to keep a separate aquarium, and be ready to add salt if the rare livebearers demand it.

Good luck,

Neale

yeah, i am looking for freshwater rare livebearers, and my main tank is fine. I have a 10 gallon i can set up now in my basement. thanks!

the american livebearer association blows. Neale, I think you should stop reccomending it.

They won't tell you anything, like what they do, how things work, etc without you paying first.

and plus, your liink doesn't work.

Instead, tell people to check with their local aquarium society. Theres uaually one in each state and/or large/major city.

Fair enough. I only know about the British livebearer association, and they couldn't be more helpful. I'm not a member, but they've helped me ID rare halfbeaks, sent me starter cultures of live food, and all kinds of other things. They're nice people.

I only put the US one there to balance it out, on the assumption a lot of Americans read these things. No personal experience at all. So I've crossed off the recommendation.

Cheers,

Neale

I am a member of the American Livebearer Association and while I think it could do more to help fellow fish fanatics there is a lot of members that are willing to help. I have gotten some great advice from fellow ALA members. There website has recently been updated and modernized quite a bit and is a lot easier to utilize and now has a section to post questions. Also, the ALA conventions are an amazing place to find rare livebearers. But it is sometimes a lot easier to get help from local clubs, if you have them in your area. I live in an area where the closest fish club is well over 100 miles away. I have gotten most of my rare livebearers off the internet, either trading with other fish folk or from auction sites such as aquabid.com.
