i think i might have ich but i'm not sure. :/ do you think it would harm my fish to put the medicine in even if they don't have ich? i just wanted to make sure before i went ahead and did it. :) thanks!

It won't kill your fish, but it's very bad idea to treat for something unless you're sure what it is; it can cause resistance and lead to difficulties if you treat for the wrong thing and have to change meds; they can react with each other, so you'd have to remove all races of the first med (with activated charcoal and water changes).

Ich will not kill healthy fish at all quickly, so wait until you're sure.

ok, but i'm not very good at judging illnesses. :p the meds i have say that it controls ich and other protozoan or fungal external diseases. i'm going to go do a big water change now.

ich is pretty easy to spot.   it will look like your fish has specks of sand on its skin.

that's what it looks like mine has, but it's only on its fins.

i just did a 60% water change and cleaned the filter.

It may be Ich, even if it on the fins.  There may also be Ich in the fish's gills that can't be seen by us.  I personally wouldn't use meds for Ich.  The handful of meds I have tried in the past did not work or only somewhat worked.  Heat and salt work the best, and is less harmful than other chemicals.

Mines only had spots on the tails, I turned the heat up to 28/29, daily water changes plus medicating with salt, was clear within a week but did it for 2 to prevent it returning.
