Do You Think There Are Pet Stores That...

Do you think there are pet stores that let you take a net and scoop out and bag your own fish if you wanted to then they would do it if you didn't?

They would probably not let you do that. Since you might injure there fish in catching yours. Not really a good idea for them

Well I am well known now at bridgford maidenhead aquatics, and they stand over me while I net my own fish (I only do this when I want a specific sex, or colour etc), but generally elsewhere I would say they would be a bit wary of you if you asked to do it yourself, and some may be offended also.

Well I'm going to ask my lps when I get my angels if I can net them out since I want the smallest ones they have but the same size.

One of my lfs allows me to do this but I have stopped as there is definitely a method in catching fish quickly and I dont have it.I felt I was stressing the fish unneccessarily.

when i worked at petdumb, i had many requests to do that. usually it was when i was having trouble catching the fish. on the occasion that i said the customer could catch their own fish, they usually did pretty well. i would not let anyone under 14 do it though. kids just seem to smash the fish up against the sides of the tank or can't even come close to catching one.
i think if you find a lfs employee that isn't an uptight sticklebat and they see that you have a knowledge of fish, they will let you catch your own.

If its just the size your bothered about, why not just ask them for the two smallest angels within the tank?

But I need 4 though. Also I hope that one of the 2 guys that have known me since I started keeping tropical fish (bout 3 years ago) is there because they are really nice to me that way hopefully they will let me do it.

I usually get asked for people to catch their own fish, once i let someone do it and they were useless, so i came along to save the day and caught the fish in 2seconds lol.
Many people don't ask me now though because i ask them if their are specific ones they are after, and whatever, and their usually happy with the time it takes me to catch their fish. (although some fish are lil monkies to catch sometimes)

But from my point of view, if i get caught letting a customer catch their own fish then i may get into trouble so i don't like letting people do it incase i get in trouble


Durbkat: Angels aren't hard to catch so either they'll pick the ones you want out exactly (or should do anyways) or they'll let you do it

No, I don't wan't to do it as I stink at it, they catch exactly the fish I want... At home it takes me about 5 minutes to catch a yoyo loach...

I have been to LFS where they have nets and containers set up for customers to catch their own fish. 6th ave aquarium in San Francisco. Aquatrader in San Bruno. Both are in California, US.

^^A store like that would be a nightmare to other customers if I had to catch my fish...
