what do you mean, any way it would work for a do it yourself...a do it yourself what? do you mean could you DIY one of these pH / co2 controllers! I doubt it, have u got pressurised CO2?

Well.. It might have to be DIY.. but I currently have a Hagen Nutrafin CO2 Natural Plant System. (I just got it) and my plants seem to be growing new growth already.

but I mean... if it has its valve shut.. and only opens it to release gas, when it is closed would it not start getting pressure?

like.. the Hagen uses pressure but it has a slow release.. could not that thing be used only it would have to remain open for longer ammounts of time?

I jsut worry about OD and PH

if u have yeast based dont worry to much about OD

I dont think that thing could be used with non-pressurised the reason is when it is closed/stoped...pressure of CO2 would increase because CO2 is still being made!!

thats hi tech kit mate, if i was you concentrate on getting a pressurised CO2 system up and running before controlers!

Think about it, pressurised is exactly what it says on the tin. I think most people tend to OD with pressurised because they dont let it settle and it ends up shooting out after a refill. The fact is, you have X amount of pressurised CO2 in a bottle, if it leaks into the tank they have no chance!!!

With yeast base, the pressure of CO2 forming is what pushed it out into the water. You have no threat of a sudden surge for whatever reason. Plus the small amount produced is hardly enough to OD them, although it could be certainly done on smaller tanks. If you set it up correct it won`t do. Your biggest threat imo is the yeast solution leaking into the tank and killing everything!

Test CO2 by using a pH/KH/CO2 chart. Just google it. You'll need a pH and KH test kit.

To measure pH swing - test pH just prior to and just after lighting. I doubt it will more that 1 i.e. pH 6.5 to 7.5.

Yeast spillage won't be an issue if you run 24/7 and don't over do your yeast (no more than 3/4 teaspoon) and water level.

No. That's fine. 1/2 teaspoon of yeast should give you a good output.

Change mix every week, with water change is a good idea.

oh! thank you GF225 BTW thank you for the advice in the PM. I was so made about that thing not working with their packets.. I went out and got yeast this morning and now it is working fine.. The first few layers even have a slime coat so the bubbles putt along. thank you!

And I will be sure to do water changes. I do when eve rmy nitrAte gets to about 20-ish.

It is 20 right now I have not the time to change it tongith so it will have to wait till tmrrow afternoon.. luckly ammonia and nitrite is zero. other wise it would be a forced change..

actually si there any harm is letting it hit 30 ppm nitrAte? (goldfish tank).. the tropical is still at a veyr low ammount of all toxins.

ALSO!! my thing is popping out a CO2 bubble every 2 secounds. that bad?
