Hello,

I'm just wondering if plants need aeration in the tank. I may plant my betta tank that currently doesn't have any aeration. Is it okay if I don't? Could I still use fertilizers without it?

I think they need.. current? as I recall fungus grows when there is no current.

lol no plants need the opposite, they need co2 not o2 and yes i know that air has nitrogen, in it too. the amount of co2 and fertiliser needed depends very much on how many plants you have and in what size tank! if you have fish in the tank they will be providing you with free fertiliser.

Generally speaking, plants dont need aeration. They use CO2 during the day and then O2 at night, but the amount of O2 they produce during the day is more than they use at night, so its generally not a problem. CBBP is right about the current though, a soft current around the tank helps to distribute the nutrients around. And yes you can still use ferts without it. None of my planted tanks have aeration and I chuck ferts into them like there is no tomorrow.
