I have a pair of Butterfly rams. The female is beautiful. Has orangy fin and bright reddish pink belly. The Make is also beautiful but no red belly.

The issue is they always fight. Is this normal for a male and female rams? Does that mean they won't ever come a pair and spawn?

Thanks in advance.

Hard to say. Most Cichlids can get aggressive with their mates. Chasing, lip-locking, etc. should be expected. What size tank are they in?

A 20 gallons tank with 6 cardinals tetra, 2 0.5 inch cat fish and two rams. That's exactly what they are doing lip-locking. It seems that they split the tank into two ends. one does not want the other to cross the center line.

In my experience Rams will fight with each other regardless of sex. They will defend their terratory and sometimes generally aggressive...
