Hi

Just a small question. Do Knight Gobys breed and what is their behaviour like? As one of them looked so big I thought it gonna go pop (that was before feeding). Now I can't find it in the tank. I think its hiding as they got plenty of spaces to hide. Just would be nice to know.
My chromides laid eggs at the weekend but they only lasted two days. Shame !!!!!

Thanks

Sabby

Yes, knight gobies will breed in aquaria. Like most other gobies, it isn't easy though, because the fry are quite small. I don't have any details to hand beyond what's in Baensch's Aquarium Atlas; if you're serious about trying to breed them, you might consider visiting the Yahoo Goby group, which has some specialists in the field.

Orange chromides are not especially hard to breed in captivity. One snag is that you can often end up with two females, one of which seems to be a male. They may even spawn, but of course the eggs will be sterile. There is some evidence orange chromides even change sex, females becoming male, though they are less fertile than "true" males. This kind of thing is common among damselfish (to which cichlids are very closely related).

Cheers,

Neale
