I don't really like heavily planted tanks, because you can't really see the floor of the tank and the cories are harder to appreciate. But I'm thinking about getting a dwarf gourami, and a lot of sites say that you need a heavily planted bottom AND a layer of floating plants. I'm sorry, but that just seems insane.

Hi Zephyr,

Gouramis are territorial species and plants as well as other ornaments create natural boundaries for these territories. Since you are only thinking of keeping 1, it is not a problem to have no plants or only few plants.

Floating plants are mostly meant in this case for the bubble nest; it stays easier together if it can adhere to some plants.

Alright, that's cool ^-^ I just like to see my cories. And sorry, but I have to bother you with a new question; will a single DG hurt platies or cories? I'd be keeping him/her with 4 of each.

No, don't worry. Gouramis are only territorial with their own (family) kind. So as long as you don't put any other gouramis or bettas in, you will be fine.

:D yay! I'm going to wait to get one until all my platy fry grow up though. Thanks for the info!
