basically its just a fancy version of a normal diffuser, does exactly the same job, it attaches to your co2 system basically and diffuses the co2 into the water, if you have a ceramic diffuser already then you dont need it as it does the same job.

I don't have any co2 and wanted some as my tank is getting more and more plants each week, would i just attach it to a co2 cannister? sorry, co2 noob lol

id get a normal diffuser, cheaper and does the same thing, you could use it on a yeast cannister, but you'd need atleast 2 to build up enough pressure to get it to work, pressurized co2 is the way forward, but first of all can you list what you use on the tank at the moment, co2 fertilisers lighting plants stocking substrate that kind of thing so we have a bit more info to work with.

55 gallon tank [see below for stocking/plants]
Sand substrate, wpg is crap only have 2 x 30w tubes
I use liquid ferts but my plants are doing really well because they are basically mostly anubias, swords and java ferns but i want to give it a better chance of staying nice and my vallis aren't growing THAT well

vallis tend to like harder water as they use calcium to form their leaves i think, anyway sounds like you have a nice low light setup going on there, pressurized co2 isnt needed, you could either dose a carbon based fert like flourish excel, or you could use DIY co2, the nutrafin kits are good, id say forget the ceramic diffusers as the pressure needed to use them can be a pain in the backside, just use the regular ladder that comes with the set, or run it into the inlet of a internal/external filter, also stick some root tabs under the swords and they will go mad.

Ok sounds good, swords are doing well and the water is quite hard already so maybe i'll use root tabs for the vallis - thanks for your help :good:

all worth reading and have helped me SO much, ive only been doing fishtanks for a year believe it or not, planted for about 9 months, at different levels, had major disasters, but this forum has always helped me through it ;) theres lots of pinned topics that are must reads.

You have to admit it does look funky though... B-)

They do a smaller version too... I wonder whether it would work well with the yeast kits. I would suggest there probably wouldn't be enough pressure. Think I'll stick with the ladders for now. :(

nano diffusers are about the only ones that will work with the yeast kits, and thats with dual bottles to keep up the pressure.

I realised that after a little investigation... think if the yeast offers good results then I might start saving for a pressurised kit to remove some of the guess work and labour. I've already overspent on my fish in the last few months though so it might be time to put the wallet away.... but the more I look at the pretty glass diffusers and tubes the more I want to completely revamp my tank... make a new fancy lid and everything!

<slaps wrist> nope, leave it as is and if all goes well then the next purchase is more plants to bulk out my collection. :hey:
