I picked up 2 rocks yesterday and they weigh 8 lbs. I want to put them in one corner of my tank. Are these too heavy ? I know some use eggcrate to even the distribution of the rock weight. Problem is I already have my substrate down.

If you leave the rock up above the sand or gravel, that will help cushion the glass from the rock and spread the weight over a larger area too.

Thanks. I am going to be adding a layer of crushed coral over the sand, so I suppose I could put a nice thick layer on that side. I'm going to be paranoid about it still though !

Your tank likely has a tempered glass bottom. It will hold that rock with no trouble. If you have fish that dig it is not wise to have rockes on top of the substrate. The fish will dig and move the rocks around. I have probably 150lbs of rock in my 75 gallon tank. They are resting directly on the bottom of the tank. No trouble. There is a youtube video of a fella stacking like 200 lbs of rock in an empty 10 gallon tank. After seeing that and reading lots of info I decided against eggcrate. Just one more thing it have to buy...

Thanks....After reading more on the crushed coral, I have decided on putting it into an extra filter I have rather than in the substrate.

These 2 rocks shouldn't move. I have some slate pieces I will be gluing so no problem there.
