Do I Need An Air Pump?

Hi i have just started a new tropical tank with a fluval1 filter and heater only, i have four zebra danios in it. I was wondering if i need an air pump or a different filter to speed the water circulation as i previously had goldfish??? My tank is Ten gallons.

If the filter is causing a good amount of surface disruption then you should be okay. Although, I have an airstone in all my tanks just to be sure the water has enough oxygen in it.

If your danios always stays at the top gasping for air, then you'll need to get one.

I'm with Rocky - air stones/curtains are probably not essential - but I have them for my tanks. Although the filter should move the water sufficiently I always feel that the air stone helps add more oxygen - always beneficial.

But hey - maybe my fish are spoilt!!!!

thanks guys!! what filter would you recommend i am looking at getting a larger tank soon? also where do you buy from? locally or the net??

Call me a coward - but I've always bought the whole kit together. I daresay that you can get them cheaper if you shop around and buy separately but at least if you buy the whole package then you know the filter is the right size for the tank.

Our 180 litre tank is a Juwel and I have no complaints at all. My son has bought a huge Aqua one and he is just as pleased with that. My understanding is (although I would not stand up in a court of law and state this, nor put my next wage packet on it!!) that the Juwel tanks are great economy tanks and the only thing we needed to change after purchase was the lights as they apparently only put economy lights in. The lights that are supplied are fine but if you want something that shows up the colours of the fish and/or helps the plants to grow you will need to change the bulbs.

Glad you're enjoying it! It's a great hobby and I have to say that from purchasing a 30 litre tank about 2 years ago we have now got a 180 litre and a 70 litre and my son has a 300 litre! The only thing stopping us going any bigger is that we actually have nowhere in the house to put a bigger tank!

hey! i started with those exact same fish, and a tank only a bit bigger than yours! i also had the fluval one plus.

i dropped the plug of the filter in the water and didn't want to risk electrocuting my fish though, so i bought the two plus because i'm gonna get much bgger tank shoon!!!!!!
