Hi ,i`m transferring my old filter from my 28l ,[that still isn`t cycled ] into my 110l tank.
Haven`t cleaned the filter since i bought it three months ago ,do i clean it before adding it to my new filter or not, also do i have to add media to filter ,can`t i just put it in water itself?

fill up new tank with water, use dechlorinator, get it up to the right temperature (same as old tank).

Take out old filter, open up, squeeze out dirt from sponges using old tank water, (as they might be a little clogged by now. The bacteria attach themselves to the sponges really well, you wont squeeze them off.) Put back in filter, put filter into new tank, set going, step back and admire handy work, pat self on back, then remember to move your fish from old tank to new!

I like to use a minature fishing rod with maggots as bait to catch my fish, it far more fun than using a boring old net!

test water 24 hours later and water change as necessary. do every 24 hours until cycled. job done. happy person, happy fish, happy days.

Yes thanks ,but put old filter sponge into old or new filter ,old filters not powerful enough ,and i`ve heard people just dangle media in water ,has anybody else done this, thanks marie as well for reply?

Dont complicate things with dangling filter media in water, is silly idea, remove from brain, forget................forget.....forg.....for.......there we done now, all good.!

You're doing a fish in cycle right? If so I'd recommend leaving them as they are.

As would i, but it depends how gunked up they are and if the flow thought the filter is suffering. quick rince wont do any harm. IMO

Hi ,have already transferred fish ,as felt sorry for them in the 28l ,when my 110l was just standing there, they`re really happy in their new home ,can`t believe thir luck i supose.

The slimey mulm contains a high concentration of bacteria, I'd leave it be until the cycle is over.

Yes ,but the filter in my new tank isn`t cycled ,unless i run them both [ new and old]on my new tank?

Thanks standbysetting ,will do that ,but have heard that you can put in water itself in some sort of mesh[tights],is this true?

Right, and that way your water stays nice and clean, rather than have all that mulm floating around in it.
