Do I have Black Algae??

I have a 10g tank that has black algae. At least I'm assuming that's what it is. It looks like spots of hard black oil on the glass and it completely overtakes plants and gravel. It not too "fuzzy". It's more like a thick black coating and it's as black as black can be.

I let it go to far... Now I've finally moved the inhabitants (black mollys) to my 30g so I could clean up the mess.

Is it algae for sure?? I have another 10g that had green agae. This is nothing like that.

Oh yeah, what would the source be? The 30g is right next to it with same light condintions, etc. yet it is perfectly clear. I've never had an algae problem with it.

Any helpful hints? Thanks.

what are your water changes like? you should be doing changes at least once a month, more often if you have a high light situation with little to no plants.
