Lol, I couldn't understand why Twinkie was plumping up with eggs so bad since she almsot never gets eggs. I even noticed that two of Synirr's girls (Sui and Mizu) were starting to get some. And then today, I notice a small but very well built bubblenest right next to the filter.

I don't know what to make of it, but I'm being very observant since one of the "girls," Umi, my favorite, isn't getting eggs and has a funky looking oviposter. And has been hanging around the bubblenest!

Or maybe I have a tomboy for a fish!

Aww, gorgeous nest! What a busy little guy/gal! Have you tried inducing a flare? Maybe setting a male beside the tank? See if Umi reacts differently than the other girls.

The nest alone isn't a real indication of sex, though it is suggestive, certainly . . . especially since it's so very well made! My Elphie blows excellent bubbles too, but she doesn't nest to that extent; more like little clusters. Still, I'd be much more alert if I saw the other girls displaying spawning bars for him/her

My female, Valkyrie, makes huge, impressive bubblenests all the time! Really shows up my lads. I think that sometimes, dominant females will build them when they are feeling a little ready to breed; she is a very dominant, spunky girl - my new VT male that lives next door to her is terrified of her - and whenever she fills up with eggs, she starts nesting.

Wow, that's a pretty impressive bubblenest! Maybe it's a case of a false ovipositor on a male? I was careful about sexing on the last batch I sent out, but I've been known to make mistakes on occasion . From the pics none look obviously male to me... how long and pointy is Umi's anal fin?

I think Umi looks like he's saying, "I'm the man...what you gonna do about it?" Being totally ignorant at "sexing" fish, I think he "looks" like a guy.

Mizu's anal fin is the pointiest, then Umi's, then Sui's which is really rounded.

I'm not worried. I see no agression yet no I am cool with it all. Maybe my females just wanted to thank me for the LOAD of bloodworms they got!!
