Do I Have A Bad Piece Of Bog Wood

Hi i got a piece of "bog wood" so my LFS said it was its in my juwel rio 180 and i was doing some
maintenance and adding a little more sand in places, and found ive lots of bits of wood about and on the sand

is this normal or is the wood no good

Sounds normal to me, my 5x2x2's sand is covered in small bits of wood that have come off the ~2x1x1 central bogwood island.

It isn't unusual to have it happen a bit. Did you happen to boil it for an extended period of time? Boiling wood for more than a couple of minutes can really start it breaking down in the tank. Also, it depends on what type of wood it is (mopani, manzanita, cholla, etc) some types can break down faster than others.
