After a hard days work, its always good to come back home, and look at the goings-on in my tanks. I think my fishes don't mind and actually look forward to my presence (especially at feeding time!).

Even looking at them for 10 mins, and I feel my stress levels going down.

I wonder if fishes, like dogs/cats, could be used in new-age therapies, and be used in high-stress environments like in Call Centres, Car Show-rooms, Schools and Colleges etc?

Why just dogs getting all the action? :)

actually, i'd heard about this years ago. thats why when i first started college, my folks bought me one of those electronic fish tanks (plastic fish in water with a bit of soap, somehow and electric current or something goes into the water, causing the fish to "swim"). it was actually quite soothing. fish are a recommended stress reducer for people who can't ahve cats or dogs as well. though i must say, at times, they can be actually a bit stressful, if you really get into the hobby

Already been done

They are regularly put put in doctors' and dentists' waiting rooms to relive stress, and I think i heard of fishkeeping being prescribed to treat depression aswell. :)

They should relieve stress really, water is very good and fish swimming is very soothing to watch...

unless you are the carer of said fish and then the whole time you are wondering if they are ok. Oh my god Swimmy has stopped swimming!! Oh, it's ok...he's just sleeping!

lol cheese! Yeah!

I agree!

I'll just check the params, oh no! Argh! Argh! Argh! My ph is 8.5 while my nitrite is 0! Oh yeah, its meant to be 8.5. Oh good, its all fine!

I have my tank right by my desk, so my homework isn't quite as boring(prolly partially cuz i'm on the forum at the same time)

it's hard to get mad at fish you love. They cant hurt you or insult you so the only thing they can do is entertain you. I love my tanks so much. After school every day i just watch them swim about. Plus i hear that people that have fish keeping as a hoby do good in school.

yes I love having my 20 gallon in my dorm, now that it's finally got some fish in it, thirsting for more now haha, but definetly can be a distraction too, as I find my self laying on my bed trying to write a paper and drifting off into the aquatic world of my tank instead. The paper will get done eventually though (of course this forum isn't helping me get it done either haha)

We used to have a small tank in the call center where I work, buy it was taken away because nobody remembered when to feed them (we all work shifts lol)

It was stuck above a bookshelf in a far corner anyway, so I never really saw it. Think it had some back moors in it....
