I got a Juwel Lido tank second hand for an absolute bargain a couple of weeks ago, but the problem was that it didn't come with a stand, and it proved to be a real pain to find anything that would fit this tank on as it is an odd size. it is 2ft long, but just over 16" wide!! So I decided to build my own!
I've never taken anything like this on before, so just "winged" it really!!
Anyway. Of I went to B&Q and bought a load of MDF, and some 2x2 for batons and support.
First the frame went together as top and the 2 sides from MDF held together with panel pins, then I supported it with 4 uprights of 2x2:
Then I added 2 horizontal struts to each side and 3 at the back (top middle and bottom!)
Next the back. This is just hardboard and doesn't offer any support. the cutout is for filter tubes!
Having done all this. I was still a little concerned over strength, so I added 4 shelf brackets to the back for extra lateral strength. you can see them in the back of this picture. I also added the door. I used internal concealed hinges for the door as I didn't want to see anything there!
Finally came the painting. I used black as the tankis black and I thought it would look wrong in any other colour!
Last I put the handle on, then put the tank on it, so here is the finished article:
It isn't absolutely perfect, and there are a couple of bits that stick out, but it is sturdy, and cheaper than getting a new one, plus I can say "I built that!"
Anyway, thats it. Hope you like!!
