Diy Overhead Illuminaire

Ok, This may sound a bit farfetched and w/e but I cant afford the overhead illuminaire prices so Im thinking of making my own.

Basically Ill use the wood from the tank hood and Ive got tools to do it

here is my design (dont laugh)




Basically the thing at the bottom is where the lights will rest. Ill be using a Arcadia starter unit with 40" Bulbs.

If you think it is a dud or crap please dont hesitate to tell me
On the back the holes are for the wires

Measurements etc will come later, Just wanted to know if you think itll work

So your just cutting the front and back off the hood and keeping the centre?

it wont cover the whole tank like the hood ill trim it down so it just fits the lights in, Ill be using the wood from the hood not the design from it

Fair enough, design seems pretty sound, personly id just keep the hood intact and stick a load of light units in there but enjoy the challenge i guess
