This is made from junk i had lying around.
the tank itself is basically a Demijohn which was used for brewing wine.
The filter is made using a small sponge, an old airpump and is fitted using an old coathanger.
The neck of the tank is VERY narrow. the top is actually corked.
The tank has 5 white cloud mountain minnows in which are all doing excellently. Recently iv noticed them begin to spawn. the filter is doing an excellent job, keeping the water quality in top notch.
It is lit using a desk lamp which is positioned behind the aquarium.
Regards.

What if you have to net out a dead fish... or something?
Siphon it out. but hopefully we wont be having that problem for a while yet.
I also have a long plastic rod which iv cut "barbs" into which i use to hook out any rough plant matter and so on.
One thing i should mention here for anybody wanting to try this project, Dont fill any "necked" container you have past the point where the container begins to taper into the neck of the bottle. You need adequate surface area for effective gas exchange.
Here are some more photos of the fitting of the filter.
Regards. Dan.

here is a pic of the filter. The black rod is a section of coathanger. it just stops the sponge filter from floating to the top of the tank once the air pump is turned on. The airpump drives air to the bottom of the sponge.
the sponge must be placed low down in the tank to ensure the water is kept in circulation throughout the tank. If it is kept at the top, the water at the bottom of the tank will become stagnant.
