I'm thinking about starting up a planted tank, but before doing so I thought doing some research wouldn't be the worst idea. I've looked into the fish plants and aquariums (I'll probably end up with a 30 gal. tank, but still haven't talked myself out of going all out with a 55 gal.). With a 30 gal. tank I've been looking at a DIY CO2 system. I got a model of a few of them and the best model shows a Gatorade bottle as the regulator (http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_co2.php). I've thought about looking for a nice piece of wood I could use instead of a gatorade bottle. I was just wondering what others have used as a regulator. Hopefully I can avoid having a giant Gatorade bottle in the tank.

welcome to the forum.

first thing first, I think you meant a REACTOR not a regulator. Regulator normally goes on to a CO2 cylinder (pressurised system) having a DIY regulator is no joke, it is dangerous. Anyway, as for reactor, there's so many types, simple bell type like the one you shown us, ladder type, external reactor(expensive) and more recently everyones gone mad about glass-ceramic reactor, they look the business. If you can, get them, if you cant, a ladder type reactor will sufice.

Have a look here

hope that helps.

say cheese :D

The glass diffusers need quite a bit of pressure to work, I would not use one with fermentation type CO2 production.... go for a ladder, having said that, I use pressurised cylinders and STILL prefer a ladder ! gets a lot more gas into the water !
