I've been fiddling with my mixture in the last few weeks....this week I added bicarb soda (aka. baking soda)....

Mixture details :

2 cups sugar
1.25 tsp yeast
1 teaspoon bicarb soda
fill 2L coke bottle with water to part where label stops

I use 2 bottles joined with a T-piece and diffuse using an airstone. So far this mixture has lasted a week (maybe more, it is the first time I have tried it)

I was wondering if there was much variation among mixtures

THANKS

I use a similar mixture, except much less yeast...

1/2 tsp yeast
2 cups of sugar
3/4 of a 2L bottle filled with water

I diffuse the CO2 by injecting it directly into the intake of my power filter (it's a secondary filter to a Fluval canister filter). This setup works very well in my case, and I generally only have to change the mixture once per 3 weeks.

Sorry to hijack, how do you make your own co2 as ive never used it before?, how do you get it into the tank?
Plus i have a discus tank containing plastic plants and i really want to start adding real ones.
I only have one t8 bulb which looks old, second hand tank. so im going to replace it with a new plant t8 bulb.
Will this be enough to keep plants in?
i would like to really go to town and have forground back ground plants etc. To make it look really natural.

any advice will be greatfully recieved. thanks chris

This arcticle says you need alot more than a water bottle, it has alot of other equipment as well.
If i only used a bottle with the formula in it, air line and a nosal thing, how do i get the co2 to mix with the water?
Without getting any more equipment if possible?
