I have tried to do the DIY reactor using a 2 liter bottle, sugar, water, yeast with no success at all.

Here's how i did it.

dissolved 3/4 cup of sugar in 2 cups of hot water, then poured in the 2 liter
poured 2 cups of cold water in the 2 liter
dissolve 1 teaspoon of yeast in 1 cup of cold water, then poured in the 2 liter
added 1 more cup of cool water.
capped it off and ran the hose to a nutrafin bubble counter.

3 days later, nothing. The mixture looks like it's fermenting. Cloudy water and a froth at the top.

However, no bubbles are coming out of the hose

what did i do wrong!

Yeast requires warm water to get it started. However if it's foaming then it's probably reacting and producing CO2.
How have you attached the tube to the bottle? Sounds like there may be a leak somewhere.

The yeast should have been dissolved in water with a temp of 30 degrees celcius. This activates it.
Also check for leaks where the tubing leads into the bottle. Ive had no luck by making a hole in the cap, putting some tubing in and then siliconing around the tube. The tube always moved about and would open up the silicone making a non- air tight seal so the CO2 would escape. So i used a bulkhead fitting and everythings fine now.
Use good yeast too (not gone off).

Well if you've got it fermenting, it'll be producing CO2 ... my suggestion would be to check the seal on the airline leaving the 2ltr bottle.

Give the bottle a gentle squeeze and listen to see if you can hear gas escaping.
I always found a lump of blu-tac pressed firmly inside the bottle cap helped secure a good seal.
