Looking for a natural effect, which gives the impression of distance without making everything apear dark.Quite like rocks and caves as a more natural effect.
Is there a good way of giving this type of effect?
Like the 3d backrounds, But too expesive.

Personally i prefer black backgrounds as the place the enthesis on the fish and decor, and give you the sense on depth your after.

You can use vaseline to stick them to the back of your tank, just iron out all the creases with a cloth.

ok when i put vasoline on the back of my tank right. i know i put a think layer on there. but will i see a think layer of it. im taking about will i see the glass vasoline and then the black back round. or if i put a thin layer i will just see glass and then the black back round? thanks alot andy

thanks simonbrown403. but my last question is once i use the vasoling i dont need tape anymore right?

well i did it. wow it looks great but i did learn one big lesson. less vasoline = better! more vasoline = huge heade ache! trust me on this one becuase i found out the hard way.

what about soap water as thats how the tinting film on car windows is done and the background is outside so soap won't harm fish

iI paint all my tanks, i dont think id ever want any other colour other than black, two coats of black paint or i use spray paint on a empty tank, buy building up the coats slowly.

i didnt put paint on my tank. but i have the plastic black backround. and black is the way to go becuase all of ur colors of ur fish pop out. and now its funny ever since i put the bac round on the dog likes to look at the fish. you can tell he has been looking becuase of the nose marks left on the tank. personally black is a must. but thats just me.

I been looking at the 3d ones again. If you go on ebay they have some on there - but they need to come from germany if you want them cheap. About 40 quid for a 120x60
thats cheap.

Ronseal One Coat Tile Paint

Does the job, leaves a rubbery surface which is easy to wipe clean if you spill water and comes off easily with a razor blade should you ever change your mind.
