I have three 10 gallon tanks that will be divided into 3 sections each for some bettas. What I can't figure out is where is the best place for the heater and filter? In the middle section, on the end, on opposite ends???? Does it even matter? The dividers will be made out of that plastic canvas stuff so the holes are large enough for water to flow through.

If the intake and return on the filter are on either end, then you should be OK with the heater anywhere. If the intake and return are not spread out, then some sections will have pretty stangant water though, and the heat will not be well distributed.

I think a 2-section tank is easy to do with an HOB filter. You can just hang the intake tube on one side of the divider, and make the return water flow into the other side. However, with 3 sections, and HOB filter would not work out quite so well.

Here is a pic of my hex divided, heater on one side and filter on the other, tbh the filter is a waste as it quite weak and most of the fish poo ends up on the bottom

so long as the divider allows for some water flow, the filter on one side and the heater on the other should be fine :good:
