Weirdly enough in my tank that had Ich on my Betta, it seems to have dissapeared. All I really did was a couple water changes with gravel vaccum and the last spot fell off a couple days ago. The water temp is 81 degrees and I'm at my nitrite spike (it's a long story). So did the parasites die out? Did the nitrite kill them? Is it still hiding in the gravel? Where did it go?

Another question is when you're doing a fish-less cycle where does the nitrfiying bactera come from? Does the bacteria go from land to water? Are they in the tap water? Where do they come from?

Ich can remain dormant for 30 days or so. Gravel vaccing will remove a lot of the cyst and keeping the temp up above 80 will speed up the life cycle. It's always present in the water it only affects fish when they are stressed and their immune system is weakened.

By the way the fish still has 1 spot that just won't fall off weirdly enough. I don't really think that ich always there it's like saying all people have the flu but it only comes when their immune system is depressed. But I understand your logic.

At some point all the Ich white spots will fall off the fish in the disease's natural cycle, they fall to the tank floor and then each spot releases a lot more free-swimming form that needs to latch onto a fish within ~24 hours, which will then show even more spots on the fish.

Well it's been a couple of days and he's not gained anymore spots and that's the only one left.

Thought I'd do some research into whether ich is always there or not, and I found this website which suggests not. http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Ich.html#dormant
Seems to be a scientific and fair experiment even though I can't consider it to be an ethical one.

Sorry for incorrect information, I'm old school and that's how things were back when I started the hobby.

I still think ich can lie dormant in tanks.

Yes, it's only anecdotal (sorry!), but the only outbreak of ich I've had in over 20 years was in a tank where I changed the substrate with the fish in. No new plants or fish had been added in over five months, but my fish had ich the next day...

I've had similar experiences, that's why I said its always in the tank.
