Hi

Newbie here

After getting rid of some troublesome convict cichlids , i decided to go back to a community tank .
All that remained was a pictus catfish ( 1oomm )
Amongst other fish i bought today were  10 neon tetras , a small red tail black shark and a small silver shark.
After climatisation  i entered fish and turned light off. Four hours later i checked  and only had 5 tetras !!
i was told at the shop  black shark was fine, but the  book i am reading says they are aggressive! .  Thoughts please on who could be  the culprit

a, Pictus catfish
b, Red tailed shark
c, Silver shark

Thanks

davon

Either of the sharks could be the culprit.
How big is the tank? as Bala sharks should be kept in groups & need at least a 6ft+ tank, red tails also need large tanks as they get territorial & aggressive as they get older.
Forgot to say welcome :)

Could be the pictus as well. Most large fish will eat smaller fish, even if they're not classed as aggressive.

They could also be hiding, or have died for some other reason; have you tested your water for ammonia and nitrite?

Hi ,
thanks

Tank is 4ft , and water checks out fine . I think it could be pictus  as just looking at rts   it is so small . I really want shoaling fish so may have to look at some thing bigger than neon tetra

Catfish is the culprit. I used to have a shark catfish who swallowed a neon tetra after releasing them into the tank after acclimation.
