Dissapearing Plec Help!

Hi, yesterday when i was feeding fish i couldent see my plec. i thaut he was just hiding but today i have just went to feed and he is still gon. so chcecked in the filter, underneath wood and in plants could he of buerried himself? or eany other ideas where he could be.


if he has died surley it would take longer than 2 days 2 rot awway

Tanks size and inhabitants would help.

Did you check around the tanks? Plecs aren't knonn to jump, but it is a possibility.

what type of plec is it and how big ?? My bristlenose play hide and seek he went missing for 2 days then i spotted him in the centre of on of my bushier plants lol

Thay can suck them self to the wood quite well. so he/she may of still been attached

Put some food out for them last thing at nite give them 30 mins an thay will appear no doubt

did you check the driftwoods to see if it's hiding/struck there?

my rubber-lipped disappears for months under wood, rocks, etc.

Plecos are often known to be nocternal, so maybe check when you have the lights off in your tank, room or when it's dark outside.

Some plecs literally disappear for years!
Story not mine: I heard of a plec that disapeared after being bought. After several years, the person upgraded tanks and dismantled the other one. Then s/he noticed something strange darting around in a couple inches of water. The plec!

Plecs aren't knonn to jump

Don't be so quick to say this!!!! Many plecos are apt to make a mad dash to the water's surface in order to gain some oxygen so that they can swim better and hence, can become a bit over zealous and jump out of an uncovered aquarium!

I do agree though, they can squeeze themselves into some unlikely places (I once found my BN pleco inside a ceramic 'dead tree' like decoration, with the only opening to it being buried in the gravel!!!). Try using a flashlight to peer into the tank at night...I believe using a red bulb/lense would be your best bet, but not neccessary (I love watching my tanks at night....it is like a whole new world! Especially in my SW tanks, but FW as well)
