Hi Ginge, I think you could probably, just about get 5 Discus in there. Everyone says around 10 gallons to each fish. It all depends on what sort of water change routine you are willing to keep to and how good your filtration is to how much you push it with amount of fish.

As for how hard they are to keep and wheather or not you need RO, whats your tap water parameters?? I imagine they are pretty close to mine (Quite hard) in which case you may need an RO. Saying that though I just sorted my uncle out with a few young and he is keeping them in tap water PH around 7.6 and quite hard.

The aim with discus is really stability, if you are adding the same mix of water into the tank each time you do a water change they should be fine.

Personally I do a water change when I can. For me that maybe one large 50% water change a week. Or it could be three large water changes a week.

Time is always an issue when your working full time!! :D :D

Good luck if you decide to go for them, they dont say their king of the aquarium for nothing!! Gorgeous Fish!!:D :D

Thanks im only a student and although they say no for the beginer aquarist(and i wouldn't say i am) i think ill give them a miss as if i would prefere to keep more hardy fish with my lazyness and bankbalance.
I think ill look into the same tank with anglefish instead any idea how many i could keep in that tank?
I would also like to keep neons or harliquin rosoboras with them any idea if that is posible???

Although I have kept and bred angelfish I have never kept them as the main fish in a tank! Id say you probably have space for 6?? I believe the other fish should be fine, I might go for cardinals instead of neons though, angels can grow quite large kept in the right conditions and may take a fancy to some neons if they get peckish one day!! If money is a problem with the discus I do have a young left from my last batch that I am willing to sell for £10-£15 if interested, I know these will be fine in our water as I have slowly weined them onto HMA water only recently, not to far from you either! Pm me if your interested.

James
