Rummy Nose tetra's are good in discus tanks, not only are they one of the best schoolers they also act as early warning signals for water quality when it is not upto scratch. Basically their red noses will fade noticably when they are not happy.
They are pretty fussy about stable water conditions.

can we see your discus and tank paintballfan?
I would like to show everyone but i just tried that 5 minutes ago in members tank n photos n it said i can not attach the file. I also have a poopy camera but i managed to get a good photo of them but couldnt get a good photo of the tank itself.

What about guppies? The fry will be good meal for discus wont they?

That depends, discus arent very good preadators in the wild like other cichlids, they are more opertunistic in their feeding, so it depends on the fish. But dont be supperised when those guppies start making fry

hi guys...ok first of all. discus is an addiction! u start off with just a pair or so.if your luck holds and they live ...u might end up with more then u can ever imagine ...u will keep buying and buying. i started toying around with discus some 20years back and i almost broke the bank. Malaysia is one the major exporter of discus, and untold number of discus farms are found here, and very weekend , i would travel around those farms to purchase the best speciments. i finally gave up after 10 years since , i was really tired of running around like a madman on my discus hunt. my advice is if u dont have the time or money ...dont touch discus. but if u have self control ...then by all means try it. do not purchase a single pair ....discus are quite jumpy and they like to be in a large group.they are at their best swimming in a group without any other fish.... do not purchase adult fish if u have no experince on keeping discus. u might end up getting cheated ..or buying a stunted or a sick fish. adults are not cheap in price . remember.... there are no such thing as "cheap discus"!.do not go for wild discus , even experts have problems dealing with them since they are diease prone.farm bred ones are unlikey to have any dieases unless the supplier is not an honest person. do not even try to get a bargain for buy a sick fish thinking u could cure it . its very diffcult to cure them ...believe me. if u are interested in keeping them ...try this ....start off with juveniles at least 8 or 10 weeks old , at this age the strips and colours had begun to develop, so u know what u are paying for. get only those with small red eyes, just to be sure u are not getting a stunted fish.buy atleast 3 pairs ...more if u could afford it. keep it in a bare tank.... why?...(1)they are messy eaters if they eat at all, so gravel is gonna be problem. uneaten food spells trouble ...hole in the head diease! (2) a decorated tank means they have places to hide ....but really .....they are NOT suppose to hide at all, the joy of discus is having them swimming up you the moment they sees u...for food! they will know who their master is. ask the wife to feed ...they wont even come near. so NEVER ask the kids or anyone else to fed them. (3) easier for water change. u dont have to change daily like what they did in the farms ...they do not have filteration and the are hundreds of fish in a single huge tank. they are commercial breeder, changing water daily makes the fish grow faster so they could export them faster...its the money side of things! be sure not to over feed...and u could safely change 30% of water every 3 days if your fileration is good. becareful...do not add cold water ...or u will have black coloured discus...with alot of mucus over their bodies,to make sure your tank looks attractive, paint outside of the back portion in dark blue , adjust your lighting and always fix the lights in front of the tank so u could cleary see the markings on your fish. when bringing the fish home, cover the tank with old newspaper, switch off the lights and then introduce the fish into the tank. if must take a peek , tear a small hole on the newspaper and observe your fish from there. u must have patience with discus ...dont feed them yet , they wont eat anyway. after a few days when they started swimming freely ..tear a small prtion of the news paper , if they are not alarmed by that , its time to feed them. and if they are eating , then its time to remove the newspaper. if u must switch the lights on do it during daylight. never switch on the lights if the surrounding area is dark ...it will spook them and u are back to square one with the newspaper gig. PLEASE try not to put in any other fish with the discus , it will bring nothing but trouble ...u wouldnt want to take any risk in introducing diease. those lovely neon tetras do look good with discus rite ....small fish with diease is diffcult to spot...if u know what imean . good luck..and if u have any other question ...het just ask ok. bye

I am going to add my Discus to my planted aquarium, tbh large water changes like that only make sense in BB discus tanks or ones with very few plants because in a planted tank pollutants like nitrate get consumed and should be very low level.

I will be doing 2x ~10-12% every week.

Ofc in my quarantine ill be doing every other day.
