ive always wanted to keep discus, but i find that they could be hard to keep with only being able to have live foods and such.
can some one on here give me some good advice on starting up a tank and how to keep a heathly tank

My mom has a 50gal with 6 in there right now. They like live worms, but if you feed them flake and other food at the same time they will start to eat other foods too. They like higher temps (Mom has hers about 83F-85F). Other than that I don't think she does anything else special compared to other fish.

A good way to start is with a 55g tank with an AC500 and 1-2 sponge filters. I would keep the tank bare bottom with a temperture around 86. As for feeding they like beefheart, bloodworms, color bits, and other various frozen foods.

Discus are not really hard to keep if your willing to work for it. Make sure that your temp is at 30 C/86 F and don't keep it lower than that, water parameters is consistent and stable. Feed 3 times a day for young Discus with a variety of diet( I fed mines with frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and tetra color bits), do as much water changes as you can(twice a week is good), and if you have access to RO water that would be a lot better. If you do all this then you could keep Discus.
