So, I have a 29 gallon tank and a local store has a great deal on fish for this one time only. Would it be ok to keep a 3.5 - 4 inch red leopard discus in a 29 gallon tank for a few months until I get a bigger tank? The water chemistry is fine and I have correct food (flakes, bloodworms, granuels). The tank also has 9 cardinal tetras and 4 harlequin rasboras.

Thanks for your input,
-Chris

you might beable till you get your new tank though i don't know much about discus go and send a messege to a discus lover or keeperand they should tell you k

:/ not realy.... That tank will likely stunt it, unless you are upgrading within about 4 weeks. Also, a lone discus will likely die of a stress related disease, as they are skittish when new, even in a big group, as being alone will realy stress the poor fish... It could be made to work, but not easily and deffinately not by a first time keeper...

Sorry, I'm going to have to say no

Disucs need a minimum group of 5 to keep them feeling secure, and also to spread agression. A lone discus will stress, often refusing to eat, any group below 5 will kill each fish off one-by-one untill there is only one stressed fish left.... There is no way a 29g will support 5 discus for more than a few days tops... Loose, loose situation I'm afraid

All the best
