As you can see in my signature, I have a community tank into which discus are soon to be added.

I will get six leopard snakeskin juveniles, about 3.5 to 4 inches.

I've been reading about various recipes for beefheart, but it looks a bit troublesome to me. Is all the effort worth it?

Will my other fish thrive with it?
I'm mainly thinking of the corys, should they have also algae wafers?

Is the discus-specific granular or flake any good?
Is it any good for the other fish?

I feed my discus frozen bloodworms, live black worms, beef heart, and high quality flake food. i also use other things like discus pellets on occasion.

Do you keep them in a species tank or a community tank?

I believe Prima is a good food too, dont have discus myself but researched when I was going to get them, I now use Prima for my barbs, kribs etc as they love it... Cheap on ebay too

Is it wort the effort of preparing beefheart, or is flake, live and frozen food good enough?

If it's worth the effort, would beefheart be ok for the other fish in my tank?

you can buy frozen beef heart cubes just like you can buy blood worms. Just be sure your fish eat it all as beefheart left on the bottom of a tank will cause a nitrate spike. And beef heart will also run straight through your fish lol.

I don't remember seeing it in the LFSs, but then again... I wasn't looking for it. I'll check it out...

Don't worry about leftovers, my corys will hoover up any remains!

One whole heart would produce around a years worth of food for your fish, and will only take 30 minutes to prepare........well worth it IMO

Feed it as part of a varied diet. It is without doubt the most nutritious foods for Discus. Mine go nuts every time I feed it to them, they love it.

Yeah... quantities was also my issue. I don't have much storage space in the freezer, so I guess I'll have to find a supplier of ready-made beefheart and buy smaller quantities.
