Hi I am looking for a little bit of help. I currently have 6 discus in a tank and I am in the process of setting up a bigger tank for them. I bought these as the girlfriend really liked them, I had previously considered setting up a discus tank but got put of the idea with the thought that they were hard fish to care for. The local aquatic shop owner told me that his discus were more aclimatised to normal water by the breeder and hence gave less problems, so we purchased 2 fish to see how well they would survive. I also purchased Waterlife 6.5 pH buffer, and set the tank up using this and normal tap water. After approximately 4-5 weeks we added further fish with no problems. We are now planning to move these to a bigger tank setup, and I am wondering if I would be best to stay with the normal tap water with the pH buffered to 6.5 or to change to using RO water and buffer this to pH 6.5? Also I see that there is a lot of trace element supplements available to work with discus and I am wondering if this is a requirement or are you more likely to need these if using RO water? Also one of the original discus has not grown very much despite feeding well, is there any reason for this?
Thanks in advance for any help people can offer, from what I can see RO water seems to be recommended for discus but I am wondering while they are growing fine with the tap water is it worth changing?
