hey,
i was wondering with discus can u have sand? i know it has been done by other people and do u just have to keep the levels right and they will be fine??

just wanted to ask
thanxs

First and foremost I personally would never use sand no matter what fish I intend to keep, because it’s too compact and water won't circulate through it properly causing sewage gas/biogas to form and you draw the conclusion.

I thin lair of 2-3mm gravel will do for discus, less than 1" so it can function as bacteria colony and also get cleaned easily -- the bare tank concept for discus is flawed because it limits the beneficial bacteria colony.

Do a thorough research on discuss before buying them.

uh...actually a barebottom discus tank is not flawed...if it were flawed all the top breeders around the world wouldnt use it. most of the beneficial bacterial lives in your filters in the first place. assuming you have enough filtration you wont have any problems.

im thinking you might want to do some research before you start telling people about things you obviously dont know about.

Plenty of people use sand with no problems. I'm not commenting on whether it's ok for discus because I don't know anything about them, I'm just saying that the idea that it's not suitabel for _any_ fish is wrong.
