Hi,

Following on from a thread elsewhere, I'd just like to clarify something.

Would it be possible to have a 180L (40gal) overfiltered tank and house 4 Discus with some dither fish - with a hope of 2 of the Discus pairing off, keeping the pair in the 180L tank for their full lifespan with the dithers and rehoming the "spare" 2 Discus? (or even obtaining a confirmed pair)

Been reading on the internet about the 10 gallon per Discus etc.

Thanks :good:

How big are the 4 discus? No idea how big - haven't bought anything - but would imagine around 3-4" each as that's what the lfs have (& larger).

If they do not pair, what do you plan for them? Why I think it would be better maybe to obtain a confirmed pair - otherwise, any suggestions gratefully received?

I wouldn't keep discus in a 180L tank, I tried it and it was a nightmare with the bullying, go for 240L plus.
I also wouldnt get four and then remove two when they pair up either tbo, thats done when they are being bred in cubes, not community tanks and the do prefer to be in groups

Thanks - can't upgrade to a 240L or higher (just got in 2 180L's) - just wanted to see if it was possible, and if not, fair enough - Discus aren't for me.
