Discus' stripes

Hello

I have two pidgeon blood discus. The verticle black stripes on one of them temporarily vanish and the discus gets very bright. Does anybody know why this happens or what causes it?

I think I saw somewhere that the discuses skin/scaling/outing, whatever, is quite weak (also meaning the fish is hard to keep and mentioned by quite a few on this forum) and the skin can even be changed by foods! I saw some foods that can change the skin colour of the discus quite dramaticly, and im not sure if other foods can do this.

I don't know much about Discus but I know that with most New World cichlids the color darkens and gets brighter depending on their mood and water quality.
