Quick question, do discus only show stress bars when stressed?!

Only one of my discus has stress bars, and that is only one through its eye. But just now i have stressed them all out as i'm doing a huge rescape, and that one has now got loads of stressbars, and some who never had any are now also showing. So it makes sense that they are what the name suggests....stress bars!

However, the reason i ask is some discus show them all the time.... i assume this is not because they are stressed all the time?

Thanks

"Stress bar" is a term I have never been comfortable with - I prefer the term "communication bars" because the fish show their bars when breeding, when frightened, when ill, when fighting and so on. I also believe they would use them as camouflage in the wild. Discus will also react to the lighting, the colour of the tanks sides and substrate, so there are numerous elements that will affect then until they feel at home.
