I bought 2 discus from my lfs the other day and one of them (female) does a little shimmy or shakes. Does anyone know what that means?

Thank you

It's showing off it could be pairing but it could be one trying to show how much bigger he is or saying " hey don't mess with me" it's just them trying to work out who is the dominate fish. They set up a kind of pecking order there is the king or queen of the tank and then all others have to fight to be above the others.

The shimmy can lead to lip locking and nipping.

Mine do this from time to time. As the younger fish grow they start to challenge the olders ones. It's normal cichlid stuff.

Your gonna need one if your gonna breed them.
