wow..... im still confused about me starting keeping discus even after reading that

so for 2 discus you'd need a 20gal?

Discus requires 10g per fish. They prefer high tanks instead of long.

20 gallons would be sufficient for 2 discus if it was at least 18" tall, which isn't going to happen unless it's a cube or hex. Basic rule, 10 gallons per fish, 18" tall minimum. However I wouldn't keep them in less than 30 gallons, same with angels. Personal preference.

I just bought the future home for the discus. It's a 72g bowfront tank, however since it was so costly i couldnt afford the stand i decided to use sumthin i have at home as a stand but it is smaller than the tank length wise. the tank is 48'' long and the stand is only 30''. Making the tank stick out about 9" on each side. Is this ok or will i have a problem? thanx

I think 9" on each side might cause some big problems.

I'd say definitely don't do it. The immense weight of the water (that's about 20 gallons of water jutting out over the edge) would stress the middle of the tank, causing it to bend, crack and break over time. I would also move some of your balas in there and get rid of the rest; 55 gallons is insufficient for even one of those fish. Good luck with the discus

thanx, i am getting the stand soon so the tank would be fine. I may just get rid of the sharks cuz i dont think they are compatible with discus.

Yeah, probably not. They are jittery fish and may alarm the normally calm discus with their sudden movements. Why did you get the balas in the first place? Did you know how big they could get?

I bought the balas bcuz i like them. I do know how big they get, but u can keep them until they become to large n need a new home. If they can be kept in a 10g aquarium at lfs they can damn well be kept in a 55g until they get to big.

A friend of mine wants to buy my 55g so my dad is planning on buying a 125g so the sharks will be fine in there.
