Hi all ,

I have a juwel tank with discus in. The tank is lightly planted. I have the T5 light unit and currently use a DAYLIGHT tube at the front and a MARINE at the back (this is what came with the tank)

My question is what tubes are best for bringing out the colours of the discus while keeping them happy? I am worried that the current set up is too bright for them as they often hide. Could this be true ????

Any help or advice much appreciated.

have the discus just been introduced???? if so that is probably why they are hiding. give them time and they will adjust to their surroundings

If they are hiding because the light is too bright, you should either use only one tube or, even better, add a lot of floating plants.

No discus have not just been introduced, just seem to be a bit on the shy side which has lead me to believe its the lighting. I wanted to use just one tube , problem is if I remove one it will leave the connections liable to getting damp = not good idea.

Floating plants may be the way to go. Any recommendations ?

Water lettuce and pond weed are reliable ones for me, which always work. Note that water lettuce may need as much as 4-6 inches between water surface and lights.

Currently, Limnobium laevigatum is working well for me, but has not always done so in the past and Riccia has also sometimes done well (with lower surface movement).
