Discus Issues

Yea its a real shame we got him when he was about half an inch in size and he was pushing 2 inches when he went. Well onwards i guess, i am thinking about doing a 50% change tonight and then running carbon for a few days before maybe introducing an antibacterial treatment in as it seems tb is derived from bacteria.

Do you think that would be prudent as i have run a full treatment of hexamita and sterazin now.

Oh one last thing, i have lost a rummy nose tetra, it was looking a bit thin as well but was still eating etc until the day dave died, since then it hasnt been seen with the rest of the shoal. Related case do you think?

Sterazin not very good in my opinion for internal worms. On the site it says it only controls them.

I would buy some wormer plus which is for discus fish.
It's hard to say fish tb, unless the fish were showing a lot of the fish tb symtoms.
Really need tests done on a fish to determine fish tb.

Losing weight when still eating well can be due to bacteria, internal parasites.

That's why I would buy the wormer plus to see if the fish improve. Then we can say it was more likely internal parasites.

The wormer plus is on my shopping list for when i get paid tomorrow, also i didnt want to cut into little dave, the misses would have killed me if i had but i dont have a microscope to confirm fish tb anyway.

My other bigger discus is still the same, not eating or eating very little at the moment however he comes out now and again and chases the other discus. What is this wormer plus stuff? is it flake or some kind of treatment you put in the water?

Soak there food in garlic juice to stimulate appetite.

A link to wormer plus.

Ok will try reading their site again.

Also regarding the garlic juice, how should i do this? use a little medicine container to put the garlic juice in and then put their usual amount of prima in it?

How long should i soak it?

When the food has soaked for long enough do i pour the whole thing in including garlic juice or do i get the food out and throw the juice away?

Why should i use this garlic juice? is it like catnip for fish?

Just soak there flakes in garlic juice for a few seconds and add to the tank.

Garlic juice stimulates appetite, and boost's the immune system.

Alright wilder thanks.

I have another quick thing for you, i have ordered the wormer plus so will hopefully get it tomorrow/day after.

My female plec was stuck to the front glass at feeding time and she had small cylindrical things coming out of her right gill, there were about 1mm thick and partly see through, i have uploaded a video to youtube so you can have a look but i dont know what you can see as my phone is a bit #105###.

You can also see my healthy discus in the background being nosey

Thanks for all the help mate.

Cna't see i'm afraid.
It wasn't bubbles coming out of the gills was it.

Did other fish rush up and snatch the clear thing coming out of the plec's gills.

Nope not at all, i havent seen her this morning to check if its still attached, might have just been some crap from somewhere but i will check tonight at feeding time.

they looked like worms, in a cylindrical shape and about 1mm thick and maybe 5-8mm long from the edge of the gill opening.

Is the fish showing any of these signs.

Flicking and rubbing.
Red inflamed gills, or pale gills with excess mucas.
Swimming in a jerky movement.
Excess mucas.
Darting or erratic swimming.
laboured breathing, or gasping.
Red sores, or red pin prick marks on the fish.
Has the fish lost weight.
Opaque body with excess slime.
Spitting food out.

None of the above.

Totally apologetic for not replying to this one wilder, had a helluva week.

Since the treatment of wormer plus my other 3 discus have remained as healthy as always and have even stopped gasping as much as they used to. Anyway the fourth discus is showing signs of improvement, its taking food more but is still a bit timid. However when it does take food it decides to have a quick fiddle/chase of the other discus its partial to and try to court it.

Havent seen the female plec and the couple of times i have seen the male plec he has seemed a bit sluggish. I spoke with a guy from plymouth discus and he said that i should now look at treating with cooking salt at 1x heaped tablespoon per 10g of water.

Should i go down that route? i really dont like the idea of salt.

Not sure about the salt as never kept discus.

I would use the wormer plus again.
What are the directions of the med.

the wormer plus can be used again after seven days without a water change.

Found my male plec last night, i knocked him out of the way to try and move some stuff about and he just laid upside down in the middle of the tank breathing heavily and belly looked quite sunk, same with his eyes, they were also quite sunken. So in the end i took him out and euthanised him. I tried to look for the female also but i cant find her either...

Proper upsetting me now as ive tried everything to sort this out but nothing is working.

Bless him. R.I.P.
Sunken in eyes can also be internal parasites as well as bacterial.

I would do another round of wormer plus. 7 days after the last treatment.
