Well as some of you know in the pond section I have a post all about my pond in Southwest Florida. My friend wondered if it would be possible to put discus in this pond? The water temperatures range from 69 degrees to 90 degrees. Is 90 degrees to hot for them? I would probably use a heater in the winter. Also i have been told that it is hard to take care of discus, but what would I need to watch for?

impossible :) discus aren't pond fish and they can take 90+ temperature no problem but nothing lower then 80. Consider thats the bottom line anything lower then that = deadly to ur discus. hehe u will find ur discus's corp in about a day after u put him in :).

Considering I will be using a heater in the winter, will this make a change? Also the filtration of this pond is incredible.

How big is the pond? A side from the temperature u also have to know that discus require pure water at all time filtration comes second the mainthing comes from water change. Some discus breeder dont even use any filtration at all due to water change was made so offen and large with aged water so filtration aren't even needed at all. So the question now is can ur friend be able to take out let said 25% of his pond water daily with aged conditionered water? If yes then he might be able to successfully keep them in a pond. But I must say its not easy to keep discus in a home aquarium with ur job unless ur friend is an discus expert and have alot of sparetime then he can give it a try. There are breeder from columbia if I remember correctly using a pond to breed discus but how ever her farm was build next to a river where the ph is always 6.5. So she come use those water almost all years arround to make insaned amount of water change :). And shes one of the most successful discus breeder in Columbia there are even army guarding her fish farm. Also one disavandtage about pond is that u can not identify disease as quickly as in tank because u visually wouldn't see ur fish offen and mostly disease occour offen outside as u know everything can go to ur pond like pet from other people in ur area may even poo or pee there yrk.

if you could, what would be the point?
