You are correct, the elongated, pointy dorsal fin is a sure sign that it is a male and is perfectly normal. They usually only develop these when they get older, making it difficult to sex them early on. The anal fin will become pointier as well. My guess is that all of the 'sexual tension' in your tank has brought these traits out. LOL

unfortunately not true, it is a reasonable indicator that it may be male, if taken with a few other pointers, given the overall finnage i am on the fence.

Fin extensions are not unusual, particularly in blue/turq lines
 
Okay, perhaps "sure sign" was a little misleading...let me restate: The recently developed pointier finnage coupled with the recent spawning activity would lead me to believe that they are males based on the timing but I haven't done Discus in years so I could be wrong.
