So i have a pair of malbrough reds now at the minute the female is laying a rather large batch of eggs but what i pressumed to be the male is showing no interest in fertilising these eggs.

Do you think i have a pair of lesbien fish?

The pressumed male has non of the defineing male features other than his fins pretrude past his tail as appose to cutting through the tail as in females, but they are not pointed like the previous males i have had but this is sometimes the case in younger fish.

Do you recommend a throw a proven male in the mix and see how things pan out from their, this is probably the 10th egg laying session with no fertilization taking place.

thanks.

Unless they are proven you can never be certain. It might be a female. How old is the Discus in question? Maybe it's a male thats still too young to breed. Are you trying to force pair them?

Hi they are very mature 6" i have had them atleast 6 months, i purchased them as a non proven pair they are happy enough together and often go through the courtship process of shimmering and showing off to each other, but when it comes to egg laying time the female lays away and the pressumed male swims around eating food, its only later when he realises she has layed eggs that he then proceeds to guarding them and helping her clean taking turns? even though he does not appear to do the normal attempt of fertilising.

Maybe hes young but this is around the 10th batch of eggs and by now he should know or instinctively know what to do

I couldn't tell you for sure to be honest, as I am no expert when it comes to breeding this fish. By ten batching I would think he would start to understand but you never know I guess.
