ive been reading a lot on feeding discus today and it keeps coming back to these beefheart recipes with all kinds of stuff in the mixture. all the reasoning behind it in the write-ups etc does seem logical enough but are they really a good food for my discus ?

They are more colour food/ treat, i have heard that if they are fed long term or solely on it, it shortens life span because it is too high in animal proteins and fats and can cause internal blockages to heart valves etc. (cholesterol etc)

I have heard it is like steroids to a human...make you look good, but has alot of unwanted effects....so if you want them to look like show fish and only live a few years, do it, if you want healthy pets with natural colour, go for the varied diet.

I guarantee they don't get a solid diet of animal protein in the wild ;)

Piscine Proteins are much more healthy also, massive reduction in unwanted fats.
