Discus And Kribs

I went through the trouble of cleaning up the language & rude comments in this topic because it is an interesting, and done right, compatable mix. Kribs, being African riverine fish, can tolerate the softer water & lower pH that discus need. Often discus can do quite well in water that has a bit higher pH & hardness, especially domestically bred.

Discus, being a tall fish, need a taller tank. Kribs are mainly bottom dwellers. In a larger, taller tank this could quite possibly be a compatable mix, provided the other general needs of the fish are met.

Let's try to keep it civil from now on, I don't feel like removing this topic due to members misbehavior.

Thought it might work.Tolak do you think a 100 gallon tank would give discus and kribs enough space from eahc other.I usto breed kribs but had to give them away.Love to have them again though!

How would you know lol.Don't mean to be offensive but how!?

well its like, most people have rams with there discus, angelmouse being one. so in a large enogh tank there enough territory for them. but in such a small tank with 2 species trying to breed. its not gunna work :)

but in a 100g tank with some discus and a pair of kribs there the whole top half on the tank for the discus and the wole bottom half for the kribs, also the kribs would go to the far back bottom of the tank to have there eggs, where as the discus wont be down there, so the kribs wont be vicious towards the discus.

Point proved?

can be done not the best mix though, but you would need a bigger tank they will need their space, and discus would be best kept in a larger group, two pairs especially breeding pairs would spell trouble, water conditions for keeping discus would also need to be considered.Discus are happier with more gentle tankmates, any harrassment from other fish will affect their wellbeing
why not use your spare money to buy a larger tank you would have more options then.
Angel
Great idea angelmouse! Don't mean to steal it :shifty: but i agree 100%

I would but an not allowed to have a bigger one. I was offered a 55g but my mom said no. But thanks for the help guys!!!!!!!

I know alot about discus and kribs, and i am getting some money soon and wondered if i could put 2 kribs+ 2 discus together in a 30gallon tank. The reason I am asking this is becasue I dont think it has been done before.

No offense, but if you did really know alot about Discus and Kribs, would you be asking this question?

If that were the case - what would the point of a forum be? :/

I consider myself knowledgable on Mbuna but i certainly wouldn't rule out asking a question - if only for discussion purposes and to get other peoples opinions.

i had to get rid of my little ram due to it being the only fish that would attack my discus.... i think it was geleous of not being the pretty fish in the tank anymore..
