Disaster

Oh of course! I did read that yesterday but I have an extremely crap memory. Sorry dude!

We will just keep a small number of fish from now on and deal with any aggression in another way.

I wish we had gone back the the shop with the corner tank and said told them the tank they recommended was not big enough - but hindsight is a wonderful thing

Anyhow, your unfortunate case does highlight one of the major dangers of overfiltering to cope with over stocking of a tank. In these circumstances if things go wrong they unfortunately go very wrong.

This is so true. With overstocking you have to have a backup plan, and sometimes that backup plan goes south as well. I had a similar situation a year ago with a 55 full of angels, potential breeders. A pair of canisters, Eheim 2222 & 2224, and a couple air powered sponge sponge filter, kept cycling for new setups. I pulled the one sponge to set up a tank in the evening, and must have loosened the connection to the second one. It was fine the next morning, and apparently wiggled itself loose during the day while I was at work. O2 level dropped, a few floaters after work with the rest of the fish half way gone.

Don't feel bad about it, you aren't alone. With overstocking you are living on the edge, and have to observe your equipment as much as your fish.

Thank you so much for your kind words - it has helped me although I am still heartbroken. The tank is right by my work desk and I work 6 days per week usually - I am missing them very much.
